Here are some of the steps we are taking to fulfill our Mission of connecting people of all generations with the wonders of the natural world and with each other.
We are embarking on impactful community projects and collaborations with local and national organisations.
Connecting with Teenagers through Nature
In September, we had the most wonderful and inspiring 'Biofluorescence and Bat Detection' nature adventure with 10 teenagers and 13 carers from Hitchin Choices!
We had an incredible experience connecting with the young people and their carers through nature. Everyone was curious, engaged, and quick to answer Dr Dell's science questions!
Seeing the excitement when the young people detected their first bat or discovered the glowing colours of nature after dark reminded us why we love what we do. Thank you for joining us and we hope to see you again soon!
Nature by the Lake
The first weekend of Sept was adventurous and we met amazing explorers from across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
In collaboration with the North Herts & East Beds Sailing Club at the Blue Lagoon near Arlesey, we led a Bat and Biofluorescence Walk for 17 club members.
Children and adults alike enjoyed seeing grasses and insects in a whole new light and discovering the remarkable variety of bat species that call the lake home.
It was a beautiful evening filled with wonder and discovery!
Nature Nell and Dr Dell at the Royston Arts Festival
We are excited to share that on 24 and 26 September, Nell and Dell will be joining the Royston Arts Festival!
Join our 'Discover Birdsong: Guided Nature Walk' on 24 Sept and 'Cells to Stars: Nature in 3 Lenses' session on 26 Sept for an unforgettable nature experience!
Find our nature stall on Saturday, 26 Sept at the Gala in the Priory Memorial Gardens!

Walking with St Thomas of Canterbury Church
We are partnering with St Thomas of Canterbury Royston for an exciting ‘Discover Birdsong: A Guided Nature Walk’.
Join us on 18 Sept 2026 for a gentle stroll around town and nearby nature spots to explore the fascinating world of birdsong! As dusk falls, we will also get a taste of biofluorescence, discovering the bright colours of the night through UV light. We may even try to detect bats using ultrasound detectors!
Exhibiting at the Baldock EcoFest
We are bringing a range of exciting nature and science activities to the Baldock EcoFest this September!
Save the date - 19 Sept 2026 - and come and join us! See the world through at least 3 different lenses and share our new birdsong experience!
Come find us in our navy-blue gazebo for a day packed with hands-on nature and science adventures for all ages!
Nature Connections with the Sea Cadets
We have partnered with the Letchworth and Hitchin Sea Cadets and the North Hertfordshire Council to deliver five nature-related sessions and a sustainable camping adventure.
We will be discovering birdsong and learning about local bird species, along with the spring and autumn visitors and their fascinating migration patterns.
In the summer, we’ll head out on a bat walk and try our hand at photographing nature using vintage cameras. We’ve already built beautiful bug hotels, and we’ll continue exploring the interdependencies within local ecosystems.
Community Events in the Outdoors
Join our free and subsidised events for children and families from any background. We provide an alternative to screen-saturated days by fostering scientific curiosity and sparking love for nature.

Joining Forces with Friends of Therfield Heath
At the end of July 2026, we teamed up with the Friends of Therfield Heath (FOTH) for a magical evening!
Our 12 explorers enjoyed uncovering nature's hidden wonders through biofluorescence, bat calls, and the magic of the Therfield Heath after dark.
It was a truly memorable evening, filled with discovery and wonder, and one that we all agreed should be repeated very soon.
Nature in the Nursery
In July 2026, Nature Nell had the pleasure of visiting Little Acorns Preschool and Nursery! We talked about nature and what Nell does as part of her role.
From birdwatching and herb smelling to exploring biofluorescence and bat detection, the children enjoyed a hands-on journey into the wonders of nature.
The children were amazing and we had so much fun! 🐦⬛🦇🐝
Find us in the Library
In June 2926, we were guests at a very special session at the Royston Library - the Tuesday Chatter Group meeting!
The group was incredibly welcoming, and the event turned into a wonderful conversation between people of different ages and interests, all inspired by the sounds, sights, and aromas of nature!

Partnering with Royston Museum: Green Festival
We had a fantastic day at the Royston Museum Green Festival! A huge thank‑you to every child and adult who stopped by to explore nature through our microscopes and to experience the vivid colours in the mini biofluorescence lab.
There was tremendous interest in the birdsong and bird‑ID challenge, and plenty of people enjoyed testing a range of binoculars.

Joining Gal Pals for a Wonderful Session
In May, Nature Nell was invited to give a talk about our mission and activities to a wonderful women's group in Royston.
It was a pleasure to meet more than 30 inspiring women from the local area and share conversations about nature, wildlife, and our work.
There was great interest in the demonstrations of birdsong identification, bat detection, and biofluorescence, and Nell thoroughly enjoyed making new 'Gal Pals' along the way!
