Walk Description

Ready to see the world around us like never before? Join us at the beautiful Priory Memorial Gardens for a hands-on journey through the hidden dimensions of our universe. In this immersive ‘nature science’ session, you’ll master three different optical tools. Here is how your adventure unfolds: • Lens 1: The Micro-World We’ll kick things off with a quick, fascinating primer on the magic of optics. Then, you’ll grab our portable microscopes to shrink down into the unseen world. Prepare to be amazed by the engineering genius of nature up close - from the intricate structures of plants and lichens to the complex architecture of insects. • Lens 2: Up close to the faraway Next, we scale up! You’ll master the art of binoculars. We’ll share tips on what makes a good value for money pair, then put them to use. We’ll dive into urban birdwatching, training your eyes to spot and identify local species. What was once sparrows and pigeons turns out to be dunnocks, finches and kestrels. • Lens 3: The Cosmos As twilight fades and night falls, we turn our gaze upward. Weather permitting, we will deploy our telescope to peer into the night sky, tracking stars, the moon, and distant nebulae with enchanting colours. By the time the night ends, you will have travelled from the microscopic realm, through the world of birds and binoculars, and straight into the cosmos. Are you ready to shift your perspective? Dress for the season, wear comfortable walking shoes, and pack a waterproof layer along with plenty of water! Our community pricing model: • Every adult full-price ticket will directly fund nature-based programmes for local youth, turning your visit into a life-changing opportunity for a child in need. • Choose 'Concession' if you are over 65 or the cost of the full-price ticket limits your ability to attend the event. • Children under 5 Free. Children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
